Drilling during 1972 established that the most prospective strata in the Duntroon Basin are the Turonian - Albian Platypus Sands. In EPP 6 these sediments have been mapped to the ESE of Platypus 1 in a continuous belt referred to as the Platypus - Wallaroo trend. All available seismic records were reinterpreted to delineate new structural closures at the top of the Platypus Sands (seismic Horizon D). Several small dip-fault leads were confirmed, with the most significant of them, Bandicoot, being subjected to an intensive seismic mapping study. Bandicoot and another large lead, Wallaroo East, were also evaluated for their hydrocarbon potential, and quantitative results of perceived source rock grade and economic viability (i.e. predicted reserves) are presented.
