This document reports on an Amdel project commissioned by SADME Energy Division, to assemble for the benefit of concerned public consumers as much information as possible on currently applicable legislation, standards and specifications for the local manufacture of petroleum products, and thereby also provide a hitherto lacking government data bank on the downstream Australian petroleum industrys activities and products. A comparison is made between the product standards and controlling legislation existing in Australia and in some other countries, and the type of manufacturing quality regulation method imposed on refiners is discussed. The majority of the project findings consists of tabulations of chemical and physical data related to current standards for most locally available petroleum products.
