The survey aims were: 1) To localise potential trap structures by checking gravity and aeromagnetic anomalies, to define offshore drill sites; 2) To delineate regional structure of the Saint Vincent Gulf graben, and investigate the Orontes Platform; 3) To discover other anomalous areas. Detailed mapping and petrological studies of outcrops covering 518 square km along the northern coastline of Kangaroo Island have made possible rock-stratigraphic correlation of these Cambrian sediments. This correlation has been extended to 3 oil wells on southern Yorke Peninsula, and to the eastern and south-eastern Mount Lofty Ranges, thus linking the inner shelf and miogeosynclinal facies, and completing a model for the palaeogeography of the southern Adelaide Geosyncline in Cambrian times. A regional tectonic picture has been developed, to which is related porosity and permeability in the Kulpara Limestone. This model is used to predict further reservoir development, enabling a re-assessment of the hydrocarbon potential.
