AIM:Three regional lines totalling 45.24 line kms were shot in this survey to - infill the existing 1983 and 1981 vintage IMC seismic grid and investigate a possible low side fault closure previously identified along the Renmark Fault Zone; - investigate the depth of burial of the Cretaceous Pyap Member in the Renmark Trough by obtaining a regional seismic tie between Overland Corner 1 and North Renmark 1.METHODS: Survey dates: 15-20 May 1985. Energy source: Geoflex. CDP coverage: 1200%. Recording mode: 96 channel digital - ETL MDS10V recorder. SP interval: 120.0 m; group interval: 30.0 m.RESULTS:This survey successfully achieved its objectives by:1) proving a fault-dependent low side fault closure against the Renmark Fault;2) identifying a number of one-line traversed leads at top Pyap Member level, near North Renmark 1. Line OC85-22 shot in this area shows the Pyap to be significantly more deeply buried (approximately 1000 metres below MSL) than at Overland Corner 1 (which failed to intersect mature source rock), and also indicates the presence of structuring on this horizon.Recent geochemical studies are cited which demonstrate the Pyap Member to be a good oil source, capable of generating oil when buried to depths in excess of 1000 metres. Therefore it is suggested that following any future seismic identification of a valid Pyap play in PEL 16, a wildcat should be drilled to a depth of at least base Pyap Member.
