Several invited competing bids for 3 gazetted vacant petroleum exploration areas in the onshore Otway Basin of South Australia, known as Areas 'H', 'I' and 'J', were received on the bid closing date of 31/7/89. The acreage had become vacant as a result of expiry on 30/4/89 of the remnant 3019 square km of the long-held PEL 8. Accompanying two of the bids was supporting technical documentation relevant to their proposed work programmes. Area H (993 square km) had attracted interest from two competing consortia, so the respective review data on the petroleum potential of this area (later to be licenced to one consortium as PEL 38) has now been released to open file subsequent to the cancellation of PEL 38 in early 1992.
