Report gives the background and methodology to a dual Honours student project aimed at producing a regional map of the 'Z'-Horizon (top of pre-Permian basement seismic reflector), by integrating well information with a large volume of seismic data collected during more than 20 years of petroleum exploration in the Pedirka and Simpson Basins. It was required that digital imaging techniques be used on the seismic picks generated by the students, in the hope of revealing subtle basin floor structural trends and features that might result in a better understanding of basin evolution and hydrocarbon potential, and provide a basis for encouraging further petroleum exploration in the area.
