Exploration for possible hydrothermal/stratabound replacement-type base metal deposits in an area located 28 miles north-east of Hawker, adjacent to the northern margin of the Worumba Diapir, has consisted of photogeological mapping of structures exposed in the Umberatana Group strata, and the conduct of two regional stream sediment surveys (total 622 samples initially, then 1800 samples of infill, the latter sampling at an average density of 20 samples per square mile). Only low level trace metal anomalism was found, perhaps due to the absence of diapiric breccia in the lease area. Local enrichments in copper, lead, zinc, barium and iron appear to have mostly a lithological control, with some later structural influence from weak Delamerian thrusting along the axial zone of the Mount Davidson Anticline. A new deposit of manganese mineralisation was discovered in the northern part of the lease, occurring as at least 17 small lenticular bodies lying within laminated sandstone-limestone horizons of the basal Etina Formation. The pyrolusite-psilomelane minerals comprise vein, joint and solution cavity infillings variably accreted by limonite and goethite. Trenching and percussion drilling (no data yet provided) has indicated a maximum pod thickness of 18 feet, grading 30-50% Mn.
