After conducting a thorough evaluation and gap analysis of the past exploration carried out on the Blinman Dome and environs, the licence operator decided to carry out regional stream sediment sampling (1000 samples taken over 60 square miles) in the area to the south of the diapir proper, and to investigate nine existing geochemically anomalous prospects lying within the 18 square mile south-eastern section of the diapir itself. Examination of the intra-diapir prospects showed that none of them had encouraging copper or other base metal potential. The results of the geochemical survey showed an overall low base metal and barium content in the undisturbed Adelaidean country rock strata, with only some low order copper, barium and manganese maxima present in streams that drain the diapir margins. A few isolated and insignificant lead/zinc/silver anomalies were also seen. Three small copper and three small silver anomalies were checked in the field and their stratigraphic sources explained. Minor fine-grained barite veining was found in Brachina and Trezona Formation rocks on the south-western margin of the diapir, accounting for the stream sediment Ba anomalies seen there. An extensive outcrop of manganese mineralisation (2000 feet long and 50 feet wide) was found in a steeply dipping fault zone in the far north-east of the lease area, which had given rise to the anomalous Mn values detected in southwards-draining creeks to the east of Blinman township. Sample assay returns ranging up to 31.6% contained MnO2 were obtained, with the average return from the 15 samples taken being 16.7% MnO2.
