Exploration for supergene Cu-Pb-Zn mineralisation within the Cambrian Andamooka Limestone, 12 miles north-east of Andamooka, comprised broad scale surface geochemical sampling (302 samples), detailed mapping of the resulting prospects, bulldozer trenching and rock chip sampling, and rotary percussion drilling (12 holes, total 2094 feet). Initially, three geochemically anomalous areas were identified, two being enriched in Cu (2500 ppm and 110 ppm) and having a secondary vanadium mineral, calcio-volborthite, also present (to 130 ppm V), while the third area is enriched in Pb (400 ppm) and Zn (420 ppm). Drilling of the best-rated Peninsula prospect near Lake Torrens revealed that no significant metal values persist from the surface down into fresh, dolomitised limestone bedrock below a depth of about 40 feet (the background Cu concentration commonly being <100 ppm), but rather, that the secondary copper mineralisation (0.1-1.1% Cu) is restricted to weathered, ferruginised limestone and overlying lake sediments.
