Exploration of the Strathalbyn - Macclesfield area was attempted by Bridge Minerals because it appeared to contain lithologic units, structures and alteration styles similar to those controlling Broken Hill South's recently defined Kanmantoo deposit copper orebody. It was realised that a number of historic small-scale mines in the Strathalbyn district, plus several other small undeveloped prospects, had demonstrated the existence there of copper sulphide mineralisation in near-surface lodes which have good potential for remaining resource upgrading through the application of modern mineral exploration techniques. Following a preliminary aerial inspection and limited ground reconnaissance of the licence area, three prospects were selected for detailed investigation. Four trial SP traverses run over the Glenalbyn prospect showed promise for being able to trace buried lodes using geophysical methods, but logistical and cost difficulties precluded a continuation of this approach. In fact, the majority of Bridge's planned more effective on-ground work was prevented by not being able to gain Authorities to Enter permissions from most private landholders who currently hold the mineral rights. Eventually, the only activity it was legally possible to progress was the acquisition of a regional stream sediment geochemical survey, of sample density less than one per 1.2 square miles, achieved merely by sampling of drainage lines adjacent to public roads. This work did not yield any significant metal anomalism indicative of nearby mineralisation.
