In a search for Kanmantoo style base metal deposits possibly formed within buried Cambro-Ordovician basement rocks present beneath the Murray Valley sediments, an aeromagnetic survey was flown which defined several anomalies considered worthy of follow-up. However, ground magnetic traverses and soil sampling conducted over these returned negative results. Petrological examinations were undertaken on several outcrop rock samples. One angled diamond hole was drilled to a total depth of 291 feet 6 inches, 2 miles east of Langhorne Creek, following unsuccessful attempts with auger and RAB drilling to test a magnetic anomaly there, and the cored hole encountered fresh but un-mineralised Kanmantoo Group rocks at 267 feet depth. No near-surface source for the magnetic anomaly was seen.
