Reconnaissance geochemical sampling of the eastern PARACHILNA mapsheet area for sediment-hosted base metal deposits has succeeded in locating several well-defined areas of interest, although approximately two-thirds of the SML area appears to be barren. The Ten Mile Creek area is a prime target for lead-zinc mineralisation believed to be associated with bioherms in the Lower Cambrian Wilkawillina Limestone, and based on the results of laboratory tests of streambed heavy mineral concentrates, the limestone sequence may contain significant amounts of willemite, such as occur in the same formation 8 miles to the north-west at Third Plain. Elsewhere, the Red Hill Well area contains copper anomalies and some old surface mine workings, while a Cu-Pb anomaly within the Upalinna Diapir is another attractive target. The Leslie's Dam, Neal Bore and Point Bonney localities also exhibited prospective base metal anomalies worthy of follow-up.
