Exploration for multiple base and precious metal commodities, possibly associated with magnetic anomalies in the De Rose Hill and Indulkana Range areas, has there identified a substantial Precambrian volcanic and intrusive complex, with rock types ranging from acidic through basic to ultrabasic. However, extensive geochemical and petrological surveys of all these lithologies found no significant mineralisation or economic metal values in any of them, although chromium is present in above-normal concentrations in the many small ultramafic bodies tested. None of the outcropping ultramafic bodies investigated appear to have kimberlitic affinities, either. An in-depth geostatistical analysis was performed on all the results of surface geochemical sampling and re-sampling, in order to check that the values were trustworthy, and that the unexpected lack of geochemical anomalies was real.
