Very detailed, 1:10 scale geological mapping of one of the exposed copper-bearing volcaniclastic-derived sedimentary units on the eastern flank of the Carrieton Syncline, was undertaken during early 1976 in a creekbed 1 km west of Carrieton township. A 480 square m area was mapped on a 1 metre grid. The weathered rocks are mainly siltstones, but with large percentages of clay, claystone and mudstone. Minor quartzite lenses occur in the mudstones, and minor dolomite is found in the siltstones as separate lenses. The sediments have many preserved ripples indicating fairly shallow water deposition, although the beds have been retextured and faulted considerably during diagenesis due to mass movement.
