In a search for possible economic sedimentary uranium deposits within paralic Tertiary sediments of the north-western Murray Basin, an airborne radiometric survey was flown which delineated several apparently anomalous areas, and 42 open rotary mud holes were drilled at six separate sites for a total penetration of 17,850 feet. Hole SD2 at Schwiers Dam was cored over the depth interval 189'8" to 222'11", which exhibited trace radioactivity at the base. The drilling encountered a generally uniform sequence of Blanchetown Clay, Loxton-Parilla Sand and Geera Clay, with a few holes bottoming in inferred Murray Group sediments. Gamma ray wireline logging was carried out in all drillholes. No significant subsurface radiometric anomalism was detected, and no evidence was found for the existence of buried palaeochannels containing reduced sediments. The two non-marine sand units encountered in the licence area were apparently deposited mainly in a lacustrine environment.
