Rock chip sampling, detailed geological mapping and 1 percussion drillhole to 94 m tested the base metal potential of a banded iron formation horizon in Charlton Gully, near Bald Hill, 30 km north of Port Lincoln. Whilst the mineralogy of the rock is favourable for hosting base metal sulphides, contained metal values are far too low to be significant. It is considered that the low base metal content is an integral property of the iron formation in this area, and that any leaching which may have been caused by the locally prevalent weathering and lateritization has been negligible.
