As part of a search for possible economic stratiform Cambrian base metal deposits within the southern Kanmantoo Trough, all previous SADME soil and stream sediment sampling data were reviewed by CRA, and notable geochemical anomalies were followed up, but without success. A regional soil geochemical sampling programme was then carried out over mapped pyritic units of the Brukunga Formation, which delineated two lead-anomalous gossanous localities having highest assay values of 3600 ppm Pb and 1440 ppm Pb. Drilling at these two prospects (3 inclined percussion holes for 234 m) failed to encounter significant base metal mineralisation. A maximum value of 400 ppm Pb with 500 ppm Zn was returned from fresh bedrock percussion drill cuttings obtained over the downhole interval 36-38 m in hole 77RP1 at the Rushmore prospect, compared to a prior surface rock chip sample maximum assay value of 1.3% Pb coming from an exposed 5-8 m wide, 50 m long pyritic unit. At the Woodlands prospect, approximately 30 m thickness of fine-grained, finely banded black pyritic carbonaceous phyllite was drilled in hole 77WP1, but the base metals content was low (<400 ppm Pb). Additional soil sampling was conducted in an area of elevated copper in stream sediments noted from the Giles Creek near Macclesfield, but no upgrading of Cu values to prospective levels was achieved.
