As part of a regional search for possible economic Mount Torrens - type stratiform base metal occurrences within the Kanmantoo Trough, all outcropping pyritic Cambrian metasediment units within the subject licence area were geochemically sampled to validate previously reported above-background trace metal values within the Brukunga Formation. Reconnaissance and detailed soil sampling conducted along twenty-five 500 m spaced traverses, plus limited rock chip and stream sediment sampling (total 315 samples), revealed elevated lead and zinc values for two samples taken on traverses 1 and 2 in the vicinity of Newland Hill (Pb to 440 ppm, Zn to 380 ppm). Statistical analysis of the soil geochemical results confirmed that these values are the best obtained from within EL 313, but they appeared low in comparison to soil base metal values recorded over pyritic units elsewhere in the Kanmantoo Trough. Follow-up rock chip sampling of the 3 to 5 m wide, weakly iron-stained fine grained siltstone/phyllite horizon outcropping at the Newland Hill soil anomaly location did not upgrade the assay results at all, and it was recommended that no further work be done on the licence.
