More than 275 selected rock chip samples of Precambrian basement or near-basement igneous lithologies were described in detail petrographically and, if they were found to contain suitable minerals, then analysed using radiometric methods, the aim being to try to date the petrogenetic and/or later metamorphic and orogenic events that have affected their geochemical composition and microcrystalline fabric, to assist in the correlation of mapped stratigraphic units in a regional geological context.
