Exploration for possible roll-front style sedimentary uranium deposits within buried Tertiary sediments on the plains east of Lake Frome has focussed on an area near Lake Yalkalpo, where in 1972 Chevron Exploration found indications of low grade uranium mineralisation and possible oxidation fronts in the sedimentary sequence (ref. EL 40). New work by Southern Ventures has consisted of geological office studies leading to the drilling of 6 rotary holes (total 602 m) that failed to encounter significant uranium mineralisation or to define any sizeable radioactive precipitation cells. The best grade interpreted from wireline logs was only 0.5 pounds/long ton U3O8 equivalent, in the basal Eyre Formation of hole FE5.
