Investigation of basal Adelaidean Callanna Beds metasediments in the vicinity of the Blue mine and Wheal Turner, north of The Needles in the northern Flinders Ranges, sought to disclose possible Zambian type stratiform massive copper sulphides associated with a major unconformity bordering the south-western side of the Mount Painter Inlier. Known pervasive secondary copper mineralisation concentrated mainly within the Wywyana Formation was targetted by airborne INPUT EM and magnetic surveys, with follow-up detailed ground magnetic, TEM and Pulse EM profiling plus minor local radiometric surveying, rock chip geochemistry, and detailed geological and structural mapping. No significant mineralisation was found near the geophysical and geochemical anomalies tested. Consequently, Aquitaine Minerals has now elected to abandon its joint venture activities in this area.
