Three small infrabasins containing Middle Cambrian sediments deposited at the culmination of filling of the Adelaide Geosyncline by sedimentation were explored for possible economic stratiform base metal mineralisation. Work comprised the field examination and sampling of outcrops of Lake Frome Group carbonate and clastic rocks, 1:80,000 scale geological mapping, and the drilling of two shallow percussion holes for a total of 46 m penetration, neither hole reaching its objective in the Grindstone Range Sandstone due to drilling difficulties. The conclusion made from the above plus rock geochemical analysis results was that the geological setting appears unfavourable for forming this type of mineralisation. An occurrence of weak, thin copper mineralisation noted at the Balcoracana Formation - Moodlatana Formation stratigraphic contact in the Bunyeroo Creek area does not appear to have an equivalent in the other two areas studied, and in itself is not worthy of further attention.
