Reports describe the planning and conduct of an experimental heap leach of 3000 tonnes of oxidised copper ore which took place at Mount Gunson. The mine operator's intent in proving this metal extraction concept is to successfully heap leach, with sulphuric acid, some 500,000 tonnes of oxidised ore (averaging about 1.3% Cu) over a four to five year period. This operation would be pursued as a sideline to the existing production of copper sulphide concentrate by flotation.
