As part of a regional search for possible economic stratabound Kanmantoo / Mount Torrens type base metal mineralisation, CRA undertook follow-up geochemical sampling traverses in areas surrounding Eudunda, where the SA Department of Mines and Energy had recently identified base metal anomalous horizons within the Cambrian Kanmantoo Group metasediments. Soil and rock chip samples were tested from above the Eudunda Arkose (the host formation to the Kapunda copper deposit), the Truro Volcanics, the Tindelpina Shale and underlying Appila Tillite, and the Karinya Shale. A stream sediment orientation survey was also undertaken north of Dutton. Anomalous copper values were obtained from rock chip samples taken at the Appila Tillite / Tindelpina Shale contact south of Mount Rufus, but follow-up soil and rock chip sampling indicated no significant lateral extent to the mineralisation. More widespread anomalous lead and zinc values were obtained from soil samples taken over the Karinya Shale. Here too intensive follow-up soil sampling produced only isolated elevated values, implying that the source mineralisation is sporadic and thinly banded, and therefore of no economic consequence.
