Following the conduct of a reconnaissance resistivity survey to locate possible Tertiary palaeochannels within an intermontane basinal area which extends 10 to 50 km west and north-west from Crocker Well, 16 open rotary holes were drilled for a total of 957.2 m to investigate the sedimentary uranium potential in two such interpreted channels, of which one, occupying the EL north-eastern corner, appeared to have a sinuous and northerly-trending outline enclosing a sediment package up to 130 m thick. The target Early Tertiary fluvial sandstones proved to be absent in the areas drilled. No anomalous radioactivity was encountered in either the thin Quaternary or the older regolith sequence penetrated, and all drillholes terminated in deeply weathered, variably but only slightly metamorphosed Adelaidean units. The drilling results confirmed the resistivity interpretation in the southern and western portions of the licence area, but the more interesting large north-eastern anomaly near Killawarra Homestead was shown to largely reflect thicker sections of highly weathered and eroded Adelaidean sediments. It appears that the entire regolith sequence wherever it exists in the tenement has been completely oxidised, and thus presents no viable roll-front uranium mineralisation potential. A literature review and field reconnaissance of exposed Willyaman basement in the north-eastern corner of the EL, which lies adjacent to the Crocker Well and Mount Victoria primary uranium ore occurrences, concluded that these rocks had been thoroughly examined previously in the search for large, economic low grade uranium deposits.
