Dampier Mining Company took out EL 512 around Iron Chieftain to assess the significance of apparently stratabound low-grade gold values obtained from previous surface sampling and drilling within carbonate and sulphide - rich quartzites at the base of the lower Middleback Subgroup. Assays and re-assays of samples retained from 1 diamond hole and 11 percussion holes did not repeat the ~5 ppm tenor of gold values obtained previously, and it was decided that, although the target horizon does contain slightly anomalous gold, further work is not warranted at present.
