EL 560 was one of three tenements acquired over the Eucla Basin area of South Australia to search for diamonds in the extreme west of the State, in the area extending eastwards from Wilson's Bluff on the coastline at the SA/WA state border across to the vicinity of Koonalda Homestead, then northwards to a point 45 km west of Cook rail siding, with a northern boundary extending back as far west as the WA border. Recent Belgian literature mentions occurrences of small, good quality diamonds within the Nullarbor Basin, leading to speculation that the region may constitute a possible undiscovered kimberlite province. Interpretation of regional magnetic data and an airphoto analysis was undertaken to try to discerne whether buried intrusive bodies, which are similar in magnetic character to known kimberlite or lamproite intrusions, occur there lying at depths of 200 metres or shallower. 40 loam samples taken from cover sediments in the vicinity of selected magnetic and photogeological anomalies proved negative for kimberlitic indicator minerals.
