Exploration for possible economic epithermal/hydrothermal vein style uranium and base metal deposits within an area lying 40 km north of Olary primarily aimed to find uranium mineralisation associated with Crocker Well - type granitoid bodies and/or dispersed into the surrounding metasediments. Early work comprised a 1:83,000 scale regional photogeological interpretation and field study of geological structures, a stratigraphic evaluation, a preliminary interpretation of the metamorphic and structural history, a review of previously acquired aeromagnetic and aerial radiometric data, the completion of more detailed 1:20,100 and 1:5025 scale geological mapping of three areas known to contain stratiform mineralised Curnamona Formation metasediments (e.g. base metal sulphides in the Bimba Horizon), and ground scintillometer surveys and geochemical/petrological sampling carried out along the mapping traverses. This work, however, did not locate any significant radiometric anomalies or uranium mineralisation - no sodic granitoids were seen, the most radioactive rock unit encountered being an intrusive muscovite-biotite adamellite, with a reading of 600 counts per second over 150 cps background. From the regional geological mapping newly completed by Esso Minerals, the major basement stratigraphic components recognised are a central region of granitoid rocks and migmatites that comprise the core of the Kalabity Antiform, and older metasediments of the Willyama Complex which lie along the limbs of this antiform and which exist as remnants within the migmatite complexes. The granitoid units include biotite granites, muscovite adamellites, and pegmatites. The biotite granites appear to be anatectic melts of the metasedimentary sequence, occurring as "stratabound" or partially intrusive bodies. In contrast, the muscovite adamellites always have intrusive character, often cutting the biotite granite: they are equated with the Crocker Well area adamellites. The pegmatite bodies represent the youngest intrusive event, since they either cross-cut all other rock types or are present as massive sills. Amphibolite stocks and sills, possibly lopolithic, occur in the south-west of the licence area.
