Exploration was undertaken in an area located approximately 80 km north of William Creek township, looking for a possible very large Olympic Dam - type buried epithermal base metal sulphide body that might occur in Precambrian basement, concealed beneath Mesozoic cover sediments which contain major artesian aquifers. Work included the acquisition and interpretation of 210 line km of ground magnetic and gravity surveys, the drilling of 1 vertical rotary mud hole over one of two selected combined gravity/magnetic anomalies, for a total penetration of 279 m, and soil sampling over these target anomalies (167 samples) for mercury halo detection. Hole WLE1 was abandoned prematurely, without reaching basement, after drilling into a high pressure (60 psi) artesian aquifer near the base of the Mesozoic. No above-background dispersed mercury soil anomalism which could be suggestive of an underlying sulphide orebody was able to be detected.
