An area centred approximately 90 km north-west of Woomera has been explored for possible economic copper mineralisation associated with geophysical anomalies thought to originate within Adelaidean metasedimentary bedrock. After considerable delays and activity progress hindrances being caused by the Commonwealth Department of Defence restricting access onto the licence ground because of impending or actual military exercises, the licensee was able to perform a 1780 line km airborne magnetic and radiometric survey across most of the licence during December 1977, along north-south lines spaced 800 m apart with a 100 m terrain clearance height, and follow this up with confirmatory ground geophysical traverses over selected residual magnetic anomalies, leading to limited reconnaissance percussion drilling (2 vertical holes for a total penetration of 800 m completed during February 1979). Both of the drillholes encountered a similar Cambrian and Adelaidean sequence, and were terminated within interpreted upper to middle Pandurra Formation strata. The target magnetic anomalies were not explained by the drilling results, and no downhole sample assay values of note were returned. Wireline gamma ray logging of the drillholes gave good definition of the formations drilled, and accurately highlighted the depth of the Tregolana Shale - Pandurra Formation disconformity.
