9 widely spaced vertical percussion holes totalling 1340 m were drilled 30 km south-west of Anna Creek Homestead, to search for possible Early Permian coal seams in a relatively shallowly buried sub-basin at the southern end of the Boorthanna Trough. Only very thin seams were intersected in two of the holes, and these are inferred to occupy an updip marginal depositional setting compared to the known coal occurrences in the main part of the trough.
