Ongoing exploration for Broken Hill - type mineralisation, across an enlarged licence area extending south and south-west from Cockburn to the edge of the Murraylands, consisted of intensive shallow auger/RAB bedrock drilling of geochemical and magnetic anomalies (7507 holes for 68,529 m), with follow-up deeper percussion drilling (53 vertical or inclined holes for 4235 m) and drillhole geophysical logging to try to identify anomaly sources. Preliminary exploration work comprised detailed, 1:25,000 scale geological mapping, gossan search, rock chip sampling and petrographic studies, prospect surveying and gridding, and ground magnetic surveying. Although widespread mineralisation was encountered, particularly Cu and Zn sulphides in sillimanite and quartzo-feldspathic schists associated with para-amphibolites, no significant economic base metal occurrences were identified.
