Continuing stream sediment sampling and soil sampling conducted across the entire EL has confirmed some weakly anomalous lead, zinc and copper results (e.g. to 340 ppm Pb in Fernandez Creek), but more detailed infill and repeat sampling in many cases was unable to repeat the tenor of values obtained earlier, and it appears that many anomalies may be sourced by metallic farm refuse that has been dumped into the creek systems. In the continued search for diamonds, drainage bulk sampling to look for possible kimberlite indicator minerals was carried out down to a density of one sample per 3.6 square km. Although a wide range of detrital heavy minerals was found to be abundant in the EL, notably including cassiterite, chromite and rutile, there was a distinct lack of positive kimberlite indicators such as pyrope garnet, chrome diopside and picro-ilmenite. Petrographic studies of rock chip samples taken from known igneous intrusions of metadolerite and granite gneiss occurring in and near the EL area suggested that the majority of the observed heavy mineral suite members could have come from these rocks or from their metamorphic contact aureoles. An unusual occurrence of scheelite grains in mineral concentrates derived from seven of nine samples taken in Rainy Creek was followed up by close-spaced soil and drainage sampling along a 2 km north-south traverse, but a maximum tungsten assay result of only 20 ppm W was obtained, while for tin the best assay result was 34 ppm Sn. Because of the perceived diminished prospectivity for both base metals and diamonds in the Vivonne Bay area, it was recommended that the licence be surrendered.
