A westwards-plunging eroded anticline in Sturtian strata 75 km north of Yunta was prospected for possible Zambian Copperbelt - type stratabound base metal mineralisation, because of perceived stratigraphic and rock geochemical similarities with that region. Exploratory work consisted of stream sediment sampling, geological mapping, ground scintillometer traverses, and sampling of old small-scale gold workings on current mining leases near Orama Hill. Only very minor base metal anomalism was seen, associated with sheared sedimentary rocks containing poorly mineralised quartz veins, or with carbonate mottled layers in siltstone/sandstone/dolomite beds. Some elevated gold values detected in the south-east side drainage are interpreted as due to detritus shed from the historic gold mine workings. Because no synsedimentary or later stage stratabound ore genesis could be proved to have occurred within the targeted anticlinal structure, it was decided to surrender the licence.
