TARGET: Possible commercial oil shale beds in either the Cretaceous Madura Formation or the Cambrian Observatory Hill Formation; possible Mississippi Valley - type lead-zinc deposits within the Observatory Hill Formation; economic lignite seams within the Tertiary Pidinga Formation. EXPLORATION: A helicopter survey to map and sample the Observatory Hill Formation, and scout percussion drilling (3 vertical holes totalling 488 m). RESULTS: No development of carbonate facies was recognised within the Observatory Hill Formation in the project area, and assays of 92 rock chip samples yielded no geochemically anomalous base metal values. The drilling revealed that the Madura Formation is thinner and shallower than expected, and no oil shale or lignite were encountered in it.
