Exploration for possible Olympic Dam type mineralisation in an area located 20 km south-west of William Creek has consisted of grid-based ground gravity and magnetic surveys followed by the drilling of a deep diamond exploratory / stratigraphic hole (SR13/2, TD 900.27 m) to test pre-Adelaidean basement beneath the Anna Creek gravity anomaly. This anomaly was regarded as prospective because it occurs adjacent to a NNW-trending regional tectonic lineament that parallels another to the east which passes through the Moonta-Wallaroo, Mount Gunson and newly discovered world-class Olympic Dam copper deposits. No significant metalliferous mineralisation was encountered in the drillhole, but other stratigraphic drilling conducted to the south by this joint venture, who presently hold 9 ELs in the region, plus inspection of the Western Mining Corp. RD-16 drill core from Roxby Downs, has led to a clearer understanding of Stuart Shelf basement / sedimentary cover relationships and probable ore host rock intrusive / hydrothermal settings, and has confirmed the need to drill into the pre-Adelaidean basement to reach Olympic Dam type targets. A geochemical survey of groundwater precipitates from actively flowing artesian mound springs which are located within EL 341 was also undertaken, with analyses performed for Cu, Mo, U and F, but no anomalous values were returned.
