Possible concealed extensions to lodes exploited by the historic Kirkeek's Treasure gold mine at Mount Victor were sought beneath surrounding sand dune and calcreted soil cover, by undertaking prospect grid surveying, 1:2500 scale geological mapping, soil geochemical sampling (328 samples), assaying of a stored drill core from previously drilled hole NBH DDK1, and unsuccessful trial ground magnetic surveying, followed by stepout exploratory diamond drilling (4 holes totalling 432 m). No significant gold mineralisation was disclosed (best assay values 1.0 ppm Au over the depth interval 16-35 m, and 3.81 ppm Au from the depth interval 4-7 m, including 1 m @ 7.0 ppm Au, in DDH 80KTD2). The mineralisation appears to be concentrated within transgressive tensional veins filled by quartz-limonite-haematite-pyrite(- fine-grained gold), which vary in thickness from a few cm to approximately 3 m. These veins are largely confined within a feldspathic quartzite unit on the northern limb of an anticlinal fold formed in Burra Group sediments. The diamond cores have revealed the presence of parasitic folding which may have enhanced the formation of tension gash veins in the vicinity of the old mine workings. Subsequently, shallow percussion drilling was carried out within existing mining leases at the eastern end of the mine prospect, as a close-spaced 5 m x 50 m pattern of 77 RAB holes totalling 760.5 m, to evaluate whether a low grade gold-mineralised orebody with open cut mining potential might exist along strike here, closer to the nose of the major fold. The results were not encouraging.
