Ongoing exploration of a small area located 10 km north-northwest of Bute, looking for possible Zambian Copperbelt type base metals within the buried Late Proterozoic Adelaidean metasedimentary sequence, comprised reconnaissance auger drilling for bedrock geochemistry (135 holes for 2292 m), regional gravity acquisition (37 stations read at 500 m x 1000 m spacing), and ground magnetic detailing of an elongate north-east aeromagnetic anomaly that extends from NBH's adjoining EL 577 into the subject EL 714 (four NW-SE lines totalling 4.85 line km). The bedrock assay values were mainly very low (maximum 220 ppm Cu, 210 ppm Co). Drilling of two diamond holes within EL 577 near Bute, to test the target B32 anomaly at sites where magnetic bedrock appeared to be relatively shallow, encountered steeply dipping, magnetite-rich siltstones that are unmineralised. In view of these results, it was decided not to continue to explore in the Lincolnfields area.
