An area located on the north-eastern margin of the Telford Basin, to the east of the present extent of theTelford Open Cut mine main pit, which is known to contain potentially mineable buried coal seams, has been examined geologically and quantitatively using the data obtained from 236 recently drilled appraisal boreholes drilled on the mine grid at mostly 100 foot centres. Information about the coal distribution and quality in this un-mined area has been collated and is summarised in graphic plan and cross-sectional formats. It has been assessed that the economically mineable portion of ground at this locality is 3000 feet in length, and reserve calculations show that 1,620,000 tons of coal will be recoverable in planned open cut mining operations if they are carried out laterally to a limit of 110 feet maximum overburden thickness, creating an overall strip ratio of 3.17.1.
