On February 2, 1954, Dr D.H. Le Messurier, 40 Bevington Road Glenunga, reported a discovery of uranium minerals in the Gorge Road in section 6403, Hundred of Talunga. A visit was made to the area the same day. Three limited areas of high count were noted, and specimens of the radioactive mineral collected. This mineral was identified as Torbernite, and it was decided to make a plane table survey of the occurrence, in view of its interest, torbernite having not previously been reported from this area.
