Two small deposits of white to pale-coloured claystone, discovered in creek banks located respectively 10.5 and 12 miles south of Manna Hill township, were inspected for the local station owners. It was found that the beds of clean claystone are very thin, and although they may extend for some distance under cover, that cover thickness is probably too great to allow viable extraction. Tests of the firing properties of samples of clay material taken from one of the deposits were performed by the Department's Analytical Section, but the results indicated that the clay was unsuitable for either ceramic or refractory manufacturing use.
