The area under review is situated in the south-eastern section of Telford Basin between co-ordinates 8,000 and 34,000, and is a southern extension of the main (Telford) coal seam proved previously on the eastern margin. Coal has been proved by close boring operations (350 holes to 50 foot spacing) for a length of 5,000 feet along the eastern basin margin, around the nose of a westerly pitching syncline, and for a length of 2,000 feet along the southern margin. The coal occurs in a seam 45 feet thick which is split by one major and several other thinner, discontinuous partings. Within arbitrary limits defined by overburden cover, faulting, coal thickness, and ash content, it is estimated that 2,425,000 tons of coal will be recoverable in open cut mining operations to a maximum overburden thickness of 110 feet, having an overall ratio of overburden to recoverable coal of 2.02:1. The coal has a weighted average ash content of 22.13%, with sulphur content 0.40% and a calorific value of 7,409 British Thermal Units per pound, all analyses being referred to a standard 12% moisture basis. The additional coal proved here brings the proved reserves of coal on the eastern basin margin to some 8,110,000 tons.
