RB 38/00018 Report on radioactive occurrences ( in the ) Middleback Range.

Three occurrences of anomalous radioactivity detected by BHP within Palaeoproterozoic metasediments on the eastern side of the Iron Prince open pit iron mine were inspected at the company's request, to try to determine the source of radiation. The host rocks to the radioactive material are described, and samples were taken for mineragraphic study from the very limited exposure areas exhibiting high scintillometer count rates. X ray fluorescence spectroscopic assaying of 14 radioactive rock samples, previously submitted to the Department of Mines by BHP, indicates that the source of the radiation is in all instances likely to be a metamict thorium-bearing mineral or minerals.
