Four cable tool holes to 10m deep were drilled to investigate the foundation conditions for a proposed new bridge over the Butcher's Gap Drain between Kingston SE and Robe. The drilling showed a consistent sequence of 2m of black carbonaceous clays containing shells and a thin limestone horizon (?Glanville Formation) overlying shelly limestone and sandstone of the ?Coomandook Formation. This latter horizon should be adequate to support piles or other bridge foundations.
