Following the report (DM 874/54) by R.G. Shepherd on the Limestone Deposit on Section 466, Hd. of Anne, the Highways and Local Government Department requested that the survey be extended northwards to include the Hd. of Whyte within the District Council of Hallett. The thin limestone horizon of Section 466 and 465 changes in facies to a fissile grey shale when it reappears from under the alluvium northwards. Some 5 miles to the north-north-east aerial photographs show the rocks of the same stratigraphic horizon swinging round in the nose of a fold to trend southwards. Therefore, the limestone horizon is not expected to occur in the northern area of the Hallett District. A reconnaissance survey was made of the Hd. Whyte and the deposit of stone most suitable, for road metal surveyed in detail. The writer was informed by the Clerk of the District Council of Hallet that the Council do not possess a crusher. However, no deposit of stone was found which could be used for road metal without crushing.
