Beryl in this area is confined to pegmatite; particularly the coarsely zoned types, which are commonly quarried for feldspar. Feldspar quarries have in the past yielded much bi-product beryl, but at present beryl is not being produced owing to exhaustion of deposits near to railhead, and the impracticability of working the more distant deposits owing to low price of feldspar and high cost of cartage. In spite of this, the high price of Beryllium ores makes it economically worth while to gouge small pockets independently, which could be done by amateur prospectors on week ends as is done about Broken Hill. In this report attention is particularly directed to known and potential sources of supply of beryl, and in addition observations are made on paragenesis. Beryl is widely distributed in small amounts over the whole are but the chief producing areas are a small area near Outalpa Springs, a second much larger area about Tietze's Dam (extending from near Bimbowrie H.S. to Ameroo Hill) and a third separated by an Adelaidean trough from the second area bounded by Old Boolcoomata H.S., Cathedral rock, and by the Woman-in-White mine. Extensive quarrying of feldspar has been carried out in this area. A fourth area occurs just south of Bimba Hill, extending across to Wiperaminga Hill.
