Supplies of quartzite for rip-rap, filter stone and concrete aggregate were urgently sought by the Engineering and Water Supply Department for the South Para Dam construction. A joint reconnaissance by E.& W.S. Department and Department of Mines officers was made and the old "Blue Rocks" quarry selected. A topographic and geological survey was carried out in January, 1955 by J.B.S. McCahon and C.J.R. Kingsbury. The field work was plotted and draughted by M.B. Langsford.
