A request was received from J.H. Perkinson of Adelaide on behalf of a prospector, A.D. Morrison of Burra for an inspection of this prospect, as samples taken by the prospectors had been assayed by possible buyers, with favourable results. A topographic and geological survey was carried out by M.B. Langsford and C.J.R. Kingsbury in December, 1954. No datum pegs were available other than the claim pegs (unsurveyed) and a distant triangulation to the Shepherds Pile Trig. Petrological examination and chemical analyses of samples were made by A. Whittle, Petrologist and the Geol. Survey Laboratories, respectively. The prospect was the subject of a report by F. Betheras, Assistant State Mining Engineer in Ausust 1953 (Ref. D.M.705/50). He reached conclusions similar to those contained in the present report. He took 5 samples, all of which were from 2 to 14% higher in manganese content than the present samples, taken at similar locations. The only sample which exceeded 40% assayed 47.5% and corresponds to sample No.5. (see below) which assayed 44.3%.
