An inspection of the deposit was requested after a sample submitted by Mr Wood for identification proved to be magnetite inter grown with hematite (Petrological Report P 41/55 attached). The writer was accompanied by Mr Wood and Mr A.R. Crawford (geologist) while carrying out the inspection on 21/3/1955. The area, which appears to have no dominant drainage pattern, is undulating and extensively cultivated. Outcrops are negligible, the country being covered by surface travertine. The bed rock may be granitic since granite (?) was intersected at 106 feet while boring in Section 83. (Approximately 3 miles southwards) The Bureau of Mineral Resources has carried out an aerial magnetometer survey of this region flying at 500 feet with runs half a mile apart. The results show no significant magnetic high but the area is situated adjacent to a small magnetic low.
