City Bricks Limited have opened up a new quarry at Crafers to supply shale for its brick-making plant. Its old quarry at Glen Osmond has been closed. As is quite usual in new undertakings of this nature there are difficulties in connection with the working of the quarry at Crafers and the use of shale from this quarry in the brick-making plant. In the circumstances, it seems advisable to have an alternative source of shale. While the old quarry, with its high faces, does not conform with the regulations under the Mines and Works Inspection Act, this quarry with its known material, is the logical place to get emergency supplies of shale. The present report deals with the steps needed to alter the existing faces from the Glen Osmond quarry to conform with the regulations, and to make provision for emergency supplies of shale.
